Along its 200-kilometre coastline, these beaches vary from the small sheltered coves to broad endless stretches of sea washed sand, and the entire coast enjoys a Mediterranean-style micro-climate with temperatures that vary from 15º C in winter through to 30º C in summer... Hardly surprising then that the region is a favourite for sun-seekers coming from the most diverse locations. As you travel from east to west along the coast, the beaches tend to become more subject to seasonal currents.

Western Algarve beaches are some of the most beautiful beaches in the Algarve and since the extension of the A22 motorway, more and more people have been discovering the delights of the western Algarve.

Carvoeiro has a myriad of lovely beaches around it's coastline dotted in and around the rather spectacular cliffs including Praia da Marinha, Praia de Vale Centeanes, Benagil and the town beach Praia do Carvoeiro which sits in a horseshoe shaped bay, right in front of the town centre.

Ferragudo has beaches on the seaward coast like Praia dos Caneiros - a lovely small, secluded bay between the cliffs - and Praia Grande and Angrinha on the banks of the River Arade, opposite Portimão. This is a favourite area for windsurfers and other watersports.
